Wanderers beat Central Coast 3-1 away and drew 1-all at home to Newcastle either side of their postponed clash with Sydney FC in the past three weeks. Mitchell Duke scored in both games. Prior to that, WSW picked up just one win and one draw from their previous 10 games.
Adelaide are well-placed in fourth – just three points shy of second-placed Melbourne City with a game in hand – and have won four of their last five. The Reds bounced back from their 2-1 loss in Brisbane in Week 18 with a 2-0 shutout of the Mariners at home last weekend. Their 15-year-old prospect Mohamed Toure became the A-League’s youngest-ever goal-scorer in the win.
The home team has not won in this rivalry’s last six matches. Wanderers snared a 3-2 upset in Adelaide in Week 11 to end their seven-match winless streak – but they have only won one game (against the Mariners in Week 17) since.
United have picked up two wins and a draw in their last three visits to Sydney to take on Wanderers. While not particularly good on the road this season – losing four of their last five – Adelaide’s underdog value is too good to pass up.
