Preview:
WIN Stadium hosts the first leg of the Friday double when the Cowboys visit the Dragons. Both sides will be hunting the two points as they sit just a game out of the top eight. The Cows suffered a narrow 27-26 loss to the Tigers last round, after falling behind 18-0. The Dragons burst out of the blocks against Manly before conceding 34 straight points to lose 34-14.
Dragons coach Paul McGregor has made few changes to the team that was thumped a fortnight ago, with Tim Lafai returning from injury and Jeremy Latimore the new man on the bench in place of Jai Field. For the Cowboys, new signing Scott Drinkwater starts at full back, with Michael Morgan at five-eighth and Jordan Kahu moving to centre. Josh McGuire’s suspension is countered with the return of front rower Jordan McLean. Reserve hooker Kurt Baptiste suffered a knee injury while playing for Papua New Guinea and is replaced with Reuben Cotter, who plays his second game of the campaign.
The Wolf doesn’t fancy the Dragons one bit at the moment, especially given how poor they have been in recent times. They have lost 6 of their past 7 games and that lone win was against the last placed Dogs. St George find themselves favourites in this one and have won three of four against North Queensland, but lost 24-12 when the two met in round 1 this season. The Cowboys are tremendous value.
