Manly Sea Eagles vs Nth Queensland Cowboys Preview

The Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles have had a week to stew on their 18-10 loss to the Knights in Round 12 after sitting out for the bye last week. The North Queensland Cowboys, on the other hand, have had to sit on their hands for a week after beating the Warriors 29-28 before the break.

Des Hasler has named Tom and Jake Trbojevic and Daly Cherry-Evans to back up from Origin I, however, it’s unlikely that all three play. Tom Trbojevic, in particular. In better news, Kieran Foran, Dylan Walker and Haumole Olakau’atu are all available. Tom Dearden makes his club debut for the Cowboys while Jason Taumalolo and Lachlan Burr return to the side.

It’s difficult to get a read on Manly early in the week. Being first up after Origin, it’s somewhat safe to assume that Tom Trbojevic isn’t risked here and we know what the Sea Eagles look like when he isn’t out on the field. Even when he was out there in Round 12 but largely ineffective, Manly struggled for points and suffered a poor loss to the Knights. The Cowboys, on the other hand, have played some good football over the last month. They can cope with Valentine Holmes and Kyle Feldt possibly being unavailable better than Manly can deal with their possible outs. Tom Dearden playing in his first game is a slight cause for concern. However, I’m expecting him to look like a different player with quality players around him. Provided Trbojevic isn’t there on Friday night, North Queensland should keep this one close.
