The Gold Coast Titans continue to struggle. While a 20-14 loss to the Storm looks somewhat encouraging on paper, the Titans should have won their Round 13 match three or four times but failed to make the most of their opportunities. They face another tough task this week against a rested Sydney Roosters side that comfortably handled the Raiders before the bye.

All of the Titans Queensland reps have been named but AJ Brimson looks the most likely to back up on Saturday afternoon. Angus Crichton serves his suspension on Wednesday night so is available for the Roosters in this one. Isaac Liu and Sam Walker also return with Joey Manu back into the centres.

Unfortunately for the Titans, their effort last week looks more like an outlier than it does a sign of things to come. They’ve simply not shown that level of defence often enough throughout the season to be confident it will happen again on Saturday. Especially against a Roosters team that – with or without James Tedesco – can pile up points. Even at full strength, the Titans will struggle for points. Their attack is poor and is propped up by individual moments of David Fifita brilliance more often than not. Again, the Roosters are a nightmare matchup for the Titans given the players they have available to help shut down the Titans backrower. With a week off to rest what has been a banged up side all season, the Roosters should win this one comfortably.
