The Saints and Tigers will be looking to bounce back from big last start losses when they meet on Sunday at Marvel Stadium. The Tigers started strongly against the Crows in round 13 before a late Adelaide avalanche saw them lose by 33 points. It was far worse for the Saints in Round 14, who found themselves down as many as 76 points against the Lions before late consolation goals brought the final margin to 56 points.
The Saints are just 4-6 in their past 10 games, but despite their poor recent form, they are one game away from the top eight, so a shock win here sees them back in the fold and the pressure off coach Alan Richardson. The Tigers have won three on the trot against the Saints, but St Kilda shocked Richmond in their premiership year of 2017, thumping them by 67 points in round 16.
The Tigers lengthy injury list goes some way to explaining their dip in form, with Trent Cotchin and Shane Edwards likely to return this week, and David Astbury is a certain starter. Forward Jack Riewoldt is still a couple of weeks away with a PCL injury. The Saints are struggling with injuries as well, with midfielders Jack Lonie and Jack Steele still a few weeks away. The Saints’ past three losses have ben by 56, 70 and 41 points. The Tigers don’t play at Marvel Stadium often, but are 4-2 at the ground since 2017. The Wolf can see them making that 5-2 this week with a win against a down on confidence Saints side.
