Geelong Cats vs Brisbane Lions Preview

It might be Round 2, but this game should tell us plenty about two sides that just finished top four only a season ago.

Geelong is looking to bounce-back from a shock upset at the hands of the Crows last week, while the Lions are also looking to atone following an equally surprising home loss to the Swans at the Gabba.

Uncharacteristically, the Cats found themselves on the back foot nice and early in Round 1 as Adelaide’s pressure forced Geelong into a handful of errors.

As for Brisbane, it was more of a mental lapse.

The Lions opened with three unanswered goals against Sydney, only to switch off and shy away from the contest as the Swans got down and dirty in the wet.

While both sides were tough to watch last week, it’s no surprise to find Geelong as the short-priced favourites playing at home.

Brisbane hasn’t won at ‘The Cattery’ since 2003, not to mention the fact Geelong was nothing but class in their Prelim win over the Lions last year.

There’s no question Brisbane is capable of turning things around, but this is tough ask for any top team – let alone one still trying to figure out its forward line following Joe Daniher’s inclusion.

Even without Patrick Dangerfield, the Cats get the edge in a close one.
