The Cats return to Geelong after just their second loss of the season last round to Port. They will look to bounce back from that slip up against the competition’s other South Australian team, the Crows. The Cats losing after a bye week is one of the more predictable things in the AFL in recent seasons, with their luckless run post-bye continuing with an 11-point loss to the Power last Saturday night. The 56 points they scored was their lowest tally of the season, with their next lowest total 72 points scored in a round 1 win against Collingwood.
Adelaide will be coming to Geelong after a bye and three straight wins against the Demons, Giants and Tigers. This will be a step up for them though as they look to potentially push into the top four with a win. Tall forward Josh Jenkins suffered a knee injury in the dying seconds of their win against Richmond a fortnight ago and is out for as many as 6 weeks, with Tom Lynch a readymade replacement if he is passed fit to return from a calf injury.
The Cats have been covering the handicap with ease for much of the season and after their round four loss to GWS, beat Hawthorn by 23 points to clear the line by nearly two goals. The Crows have a miserable record in Geelong, losing all six of the matches they have played at the ground since 2009 by an average of five goals. The Wolf sees this as a good enough reason to back the Cats to bounce back under the Friday night lights by the bay.
