Collingwood Magpies vs Essendon Bombers Preview
Providing further frustration for their supporters, the Bombers have suddenly come good during the late part of the season to record three straight wins over West Coast, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.
Essendon’s pressure and work down back has been immense over the last month, setting up a dream matchup on Sunday against archrivals Collingwood at the MCG.
The Dons would like nothing more than to get some revenge for their 11-point ANZAC Day loss, while they’ll also relish an opportunity to make life tough for the Pies as far as the top eight is concerned.
On the flip side, Collingwood can feel confident about this game knowing they’ve won eight in a row.
Recent wins over GWS, the Suns, North, and the Crows haven’t been pretty, but there’s been plenty to like about the Pies’ tackling and fourth quarter resolve as they look to punch a ticket to the finals.
The market suggests this should be another close one, but the Pies feel like a good value bet at the current quote.
Tackling wise, Collingwood has been vastly superior in comparison to Essendon, and we’re yet to see any team come up with an answer to first-year superstar and Rising Star shoo-in, Nick Daicos.
Wins against a depleted Brisbane side and a Suns outfit that basically failed to turn up have been nice, but this feels like a reality check waiting to happen for the Bombers.
