Preview:
The North Queensland Cowboys open the new Queensland Country Bank Stadium against their arch-rival, Brisbane Broncos. Always a thriller, these games tend to go down to the wire no matter the form the two teams carry in. Being Round 1, we’re going in blind.
The Cowboys have an excellent and experienced pack led by the best forward in the NRL, Jason Taumalolo. He always ensures an element of go-forward in the Cowboys attack. Josh McGuire misses this one due to injury, but there is no shortage of talent in the North Queensland middle. Likewise, the Broncos play this one without Joe Ofahengaue and Matt Lodge but will expect to dominate the centre-third. It’s where the game will be won and lost, and on paper, the two can’t be split.
Both teams are introducing new-look spines and need a strong platform to run off. The winning forward pack wins the game here.
